Direct democracy was a form of democracy, in which power was exercised directly by the people in an assembly. Depending on the powers of this assembly, citizens could pass or repeal laws, as well as elect public officials, through what was decided by the majority vote. It was excercised in ancient Greece as the polis' system of government.
