Horace Greeley was an author and statesman who founded the <em>Tribune</em>, a well-known American newspaper at the time. He was very active in politics, and served as a congressman in New York. Horace Greeley was also very interested in the settlement of the West, and he talked about the idea of men travelling to this area and making their fortune there. He also believed it to be a great opportunity for the young and the unemployed.
