What does Obama claim is a similarity between the students listening to his speech and his own experience as a student?
melisa1 [442]

Answer:

Obama claimed that like the students,

1. He had to wake at the very early hours of the morning to take lessons from his mother.

2. He suffered challenges that would have limited him, such as being raised by a single mom who was not really financially buoyant.

Explanation:

In his speech at Wakefield High School, Virginia, USA, which students from other schools tied in to, President Obama encouraged the students to work hard at their studies. He noted that most of the students would rather prefer being on their beds during summer, than having to put in the extra efforts to come to school. This was an experience he had when he was younger and had to wake as early as 4:30 a.m to get some extra lessons from his mother who could not afford to send him to American schools at that time.

Also, he agreed that like the students he had challenges that would have made him quit, such as, being raised by a single mom who struggled to take care of him when his father left the family at his early age of two. He therefore, urged the students to never let any challenges they faced, limit their growth.

Which poetic device is used in the excerpt from Lowell's "For the Union Dead"?
hoa [83]
The old South Boston Aquarium stands
in a Sahara of snow now. Its broken windows are boarded.
The bronze weathervane cod has lost half its scales.
The airy tanks are dry.Once my nose crawled like a snail on the glass;
my hand tingled
to burst the bubbles,
drifting from the noses of the cowed, compliant fish.
The first two verses are the perfect poetic evidence of Robert Lowell's poem. He rhythmically described the loss of the childhood memories in the beginning and continued establishing the development of the character further in the poetry.

How to make a bow and arrow

Making a bow and arrow is very simple. Do not do this at home without supervision and carefully read the instructions before attempting to make a bow and arrow. You should brainstorm a good location to begin making your bow and arrow. Sometimes the materials that you buy may not be strong enough so make sure to buy sturdy ones. The materials that you need are rubber bands and some bamboo skewers. Be careful with the bamboo skewers because it is sharp tipped and can go far in the distance. It is exactly like long toothpicks.

First, stretch the thick rubber band between your index finger and middle fingers. Next, use the flat end of the bamboo skewer to push the rubber bands together. Then, form a circular shape with your other hand to hold the material firmly. Use the same fingers that I mentioned before to perform this act. After you have done that pull back on the string and let go. It will go a long distance away and if you have a target such as a box it will punch through it so be careful. You may want to use two layers of boxes.

I hope you had a good time making it. That is all the steps of making a bow and arrow. If you do not have a target then just use some cardboard box. One of the many places you can do it is in the open plains or fields. Have a great time playing with the bow and arrow!

Hope this helps,

What has Jonas lost by leaving the community? What has he gained (The giver)
hram777 [196]

Answer:

Although he loses certainty, community, and the illusion of a harmonious life, he gains the life of his brother (who was scheduled to be killed), his freedom, the ability to stop being hypocritical, and authenticity. The uncertainty of his new life `elsewhere` is itself part of the freedom he gains.

hope this helps

have a good day :)
