<em>After the Civil War</em>, Georgia couldn't rely that much on its agrarian economy. Slaves that were now liberated made up the workforce core in Georgia's agrarian economy, so, once they have been freed, there were little people left who would work on plantations. Slave owners couldn't trade that much anymore, so Georgia wasn't a powerful economy anymore.

Liberated slaves moved into the cities and a lot of farms were left desolate and devastated.

Consequently, Georgians had to learn to become more self-sufficient, so that they could survive without slaves' work. Their main concern now was to maintain their plantations and supply subsistence workforce.
