Why could “The Danger of Lying in Bed” be considered a personal essay?

English

“The Danger of Lying in Bed” takes a personal experience and connects it to something more general. One issue Twain explores is human gullibility—people’s tendency to accept something without looking at its underlying assumptions. He uses the idea of the train travel insurance as the symbol for carrying this thought and analysis. He discusses the obviously silly idea about how lying in bed is more dangerous than traveling as satire to show how people can use statistics to support even the most ridiculous ideas.

Ultimately, Twain’s satirical essay shows people that they shouldn’t accept everything they are told. Twain starts with what may or may not be an actual personal experience of traveling by train and being asked if he wants to purchase traveler's insurance. He uses it to develop a satirically logical conclusion that people are less likely to die while traveling by train than while sleeping at home. He includes actual research and data to support his satirical views.

Qualities that indicate this is a personal essay include opening with an anecdote, reflecting on a personal experience, and commenting on an issue—in this case, human gullibility.

Which of the following expressions would Antigone most likely believe to be true?
Vinvika [58]

Answer:

A. Blood is thicker than water.

Explanation:

The actions displayed by Antigone proved that she valued family relationships and would be a great supporter of the fact that blood is thicker than water. First, she accompanied her blind father as he went into exile and finally died. Then, while returning, she saw her brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices fighting and she tried to reconcile them as well. When the two bothers were killed by their Uncle Creon, Eteocles was buried while Polyneices was left unburied. Antigone secretly buried him.

When the King got to know about this, he ordered her execution but she hanged herself. These antecedents prove indeed that Antigone was a firm believer in the adage that 'Blood is thicker than water'. She sacrificed for her loved ones.

What is one cause of the increased tension in ACT II of the Diary of Anne Frank?
kozerog [31]

One of the causes of the increased tension depicted in Act II, is the decision that Mr. Frank makes about answering phone calls. He makes that choice because he does not want anyone to find out that the building is occupied. If word came out, consequences would obviously be disastrous for the whole family, and their own survival would be in jeopardy.
