in 1870, the state of Tennessee adopted a new constitution. Which is the BEST explanation for why this happened?
Margaret [11]

The best explanation to adopt a new Constitution in Tennessee is that it was a response to the requirement for all ex-Confederate states to adopt new constitutions expressly prohibiting slavery. In that sense, General Assembly, on November 15, 1869, called for an election to determine if a constitutional convention should be called to amend or replace the 1835 Constitution and to elect delegates to that convention. Finally, the voters decided for the convention and the new Constitution was approved in March 1870.

1. The Battle of Antietam ended the Confederate invasion of Maryland in 1862 and resulted in a Union victory. It also led to President Abraham Lincoln issuing the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862.

2. The battle of Vicksburg gave control of the Mississippi River to the Union. Around the same time, the Confederate army under General Robert E. Lee was defeated at the Battle of Gettysburg. These two victories marked the major turning point of the Civil War in favor of the Union.

3. The Battle of Gettysburg stopped Confederate General Robert E. Lee's second invasion of the North. More than 50,000 men fell as casualties during the 3-day battle, making it the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War.

4. The Battle of Atlanta was important because of its location and commercial importance, Atlanta was used as a center for military operations and as a supply route by the Confederate army during the Civil War. Therefore, it also became a target for the Union army. General William Tecumseh Sherman and his troops captured the city in 1864.
