In a direct primary, voters vote for a nominee themselves, not through a delegate. A direct primary, which is employed in some form in all U.S. states today, operates as a preliminary election where the voters decide their candidates of the party.

EXPLANATION:

A direct primary is a primary where voters elect candidates through direct elections. This contrasts with the indirect primary, where voters elect delegates who then elect candidates of a party at a later convention. An example of a direct primary is the state primary of Pennsylvania, where voters cast direct votes for candidates for state-level offices and congressional. An indirect primary example is the president's primary preference.

Although direct primaries were employed in the early 1840s, the primary system began to be used in general in the early 20th century. This movement spread so quickly that in 1917 all but four states had implemented a direct primary for some or all nominations throughout the entire state.

However, for presidential elections, the primaries were not preferred and were commonly employed in less than 20 states until the 1970s, after which many states implemented the primaries. The attention of the news media has augmented the importance of presidential primaries to the stake where success—specifically in New Hampshire (which often has held the first presidential election) and in other initial primaries—gives the candidate a big benefit in private and publicity campaign funding, while failure can stop the campaign.

The answer is: C. vote for a nominee themselves, not through a delegate.

A direct primary tend to be favored by most voters because they can specifically choose for the representatives that share their value. Without a direct primary, voters can only choose for the party and give the power for the party to elect the member representatives of their own choosing, not the people's.

Per capita measures the average annual income per person per year.

Per capita can take the place of saying “per person” in any statistical observances. In most cases, the phrase is used in relation to economic data or reporting, but it can also be used in almost any other occurrence of population description.
