He said he had trusted him but he was a traitor, Things are not always as they appear.

Explanation:

Duncan says he trusted Cawdor but he must not be a good judge of character form looking at a person's face. We can't always tell what people are really thinking based on their faces. Appearances canbe deceiving. This is ironic because Duncan is praising Macbeth and giving his honors while Macbeth is thinking about he can become king.
