The rate of jet in still air is 880 mph and rate of wind is 180 mph

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Given that Flying against the wind, a jet travels 2100 miles in 3 hours

Flying with the wind, the same jet travels 8480 miles in 8 hours

To find: rate of the jet in still air and rate of the wind

Let the rate of jet in still air be  "x"  miles per hour and rate of wind be  "y" miles per hour.

against wind speed = x - y mph

with wind speed = x + y mph

We know that,

speed = \frac{distance}{time}

\text{against wind speed }=\frac{2100}{3}=700 \mathrm{mph}

\text{with wind speed} =\frac{8480}{8}=1060 \text{ mph}

Hence we get,

x - y = 700 --- eqn 1

x + y = 1060 --- eqn 2

Add the above two equations,

x - y + x + y = 700 + 1060

2x = 1760

<h3>x = 880</h3>

From eqn 1 we get,

880 - y = 700

y = 880 - 700 = 180

<h3>y = 180</h3>

Thus the rate of jet in still air is 880 mph and rate of wind is 180 mph

A client is withdrawing $105.83. He would like $40 in $10 bills and the rest in the fewest number of bills and coins possible. S
Gennadij [26K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The client starts with 105.83 dollars

He requests 40 of which to be subtracted in denominations of 10, meaning 4 10 dollar bills are being removed.

After this he has 65.83 more dollars to withdraw, the next biggest bill denomination is a 50, so lets subtract 50 from our account.

Now he is left with 15.83, subtract another 10 dollar bill.

That leaves us with 5.83, subtract one 5 dollar bill.

Leaving us with 0.83, subtract 3 quarters

That leaves us with 8 cents, lets subtract one nickel, leaving us with 3 cents.

Now with those 3 cents we can subtract 3 pennies.

Meaning the least amount of denominations required is:

1 50-Dollar bill

5 10-Dollar bills

1 5-Dollar bill

3 Quarters

1 Nickel

3 Pennies
