You have to make the denominator (bottom number of a fraction) of each fraction the same.
For example:
1/2 + 2/3
To make the denominator the same, multiply the denominator of the first fraction (2) by the denominator of the second fraction (3), then do the opposite with the second fraction :
1/2 + 2/3
Multiply both TOP and BOTTOM by 3:
3/6
Multiply both TOP and BOTTOM by 2:
4/6
As you can see the denominator of both fractions are now the same, which means we can add them:
3/6 + 4/6 = 7/6

And you would use this same method for subtraction too!
Hope this helped :)

You add and subtract unlike fractions by finding a common denominator, which is basically the LCM (Least Common Multiple) of the two numbers. Then, once the two fractions have the same base, you can straight up add the numerators, and if possible, simplify. Here are some examples:
1/5 + 3/10 = ?
Denominators = 5, 10
What is the LCM?
=> 10
Therefore...
1/5 × (2/2) + 3/10 = ? (The paranthesis next to 1/5 shows how we are creating a common denominator)
2/10 + 3/10 = ?
= 5/10
= 1/2 (Simplify)
Hope this helped and have a phenomenal day!

Amanda only has $30 to buy pens and notebooks. Each pen costs $2. Each notebook coats $3. Which of the following graph represent
sineoko [7]

Answer:

3p + 8n,    12p + 2n,    9p+4n,    6p+6n

8 columns bar graph.

Step-by-step explanation:

$2 = pen

$3 = notebook

This could be written as a bar graph in multiples of $6.00 along y axes.

3 pens + 8 notebooks. Then 12 pens + 2 notebooks.

Then 9 pens + 4 notebooks . Then 6 pens + 6 notebooks

3p + 8n,    12p + 2n,    9p+4n,    6p + 6n

3p = $6

8n = $24

12p = $24

2n = $6

9p = $18

4n = $12

6p = $12

6n = $18

and so on...

I'm having trouble with algebraic fractions . 3/2n-8/3=-29/12
nadezda [96]

what we can do is hmmmm get the LCD of all fractions, and multiply both sides by that LCD, let's see, we have denominators of 2, 3 and 12, so we can use the LCD of 12, and multiply both sides by 12 to do away with the denominators.

\bf \cfrac{3}{2}n-\cfrac{8}{3}=-\cfrac{29}{12}\implies \stackrel{\textit{multiplying both sides by }\stackrel{LCD}{12}}{12\left( \cfrac{3}{2}n-\cfrac{8}{3} \right)=12\left( -\cfrac{29}{12} \right)}\implies (6)3n-(4)8=(1)-29 \\\\\\ 18n-32=-29\implies 18n=3\implies n=\cfrac{3}{18}\implies n=\cfrac{1}{6}

Point B lies between points A and C, and all three points lie on point AC, which of the following is not true? A. Point B lies o
loris [4]

Answer:

C. Point A lies on ray BC

Step-by-step explanation:

Points A and C can be connected by a segment which would be a measure of the distance between the points. Locating point B between AC, makes the three points lying on segment AC.

A ray extends from a point to infinity, a line extend to infinity on both sides, while a segment is known to have two endpoints. Therefore, points AC are the end points of the segment AC, and point B between this segment confirms that point B lies on the segment AC. Therefore, Point A lies on ray BC is not correct.
