"As one of our outstanding historical figures once said, ‘When a great democracy is destroyed, it will not be because of enemies

from without but rather because of enemies from within.’" (Paragraph 7) How does this quote reveal McCarthy’s point of view and advance the purpose of his speech?

Explanation:

In this speech, McCarthy wanted to present another perspective to the Americans, who were used to seeing communism as a global external force, which should be controlled through diplomacy and military forces. Therefore, McCarthy's intention in this speech was to present another point of view on the communist threats, which were not only coming from outside agents, but should also pay attention to internal agents. According to him, there were communist agents infiltrated in the government and in American society, and he claimed to have a list with known names that would be evidence of what he said, but that list was never released.

However, with this speech McCarthy managed to stand out in the Cold War period in the 50s, winning the confidence of Americans.

Licemer1 [7]
Oh boy I’m gonna try or help as best as I can. After reading the poem I think that the imagery of freedom would be death. In the poem he consistently talks about how he could have died but didn’t. So I think that death would be freedom because it would end all of his struggling/ pain/ troubles. He constantly talks about how freedom (death) is so close in his grasp but he never quite makes it, he never dies. So I think he has a lack of freedom because although he could do what ever he wanted (for example jump in the river or take an elevator to the top floor) he never had the freedom he WANTED he never had the freedom to end life when he wanted to. And once he realized that he never had that freedom he decided that “life was fine”. I’m not sure if that makes sense but I hope it helps. Which thesis statement is better?
VMariaS [17]

Answer:

The first one: "Although both are elephants, Asian and African elephants are different in size, genetics, and habitat." is better because the thesis statement is supposed to be an introduction to your essay.

Explanation:

Meaning that it introduces the audience to the different topics that you're going to later bring up in the body paragraphs.

Think of the thesis as the entire purpose of your essay being condensed into one sentence.

Hope this helps you :)
