It was Henry Cabot Lodge. Shockingly for Wilson, he was met with firm resistance. The Republican pioneer of the Senate, Henry Cabot Lodge, was exceptionally suspicious of Wilson and his arrangement. Article X of the League of Nations required the United States to regard the regional uprightness of part states.

Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union had a non aggression pact. When Germany's attempt to conquer England failed Hitler turned his attention to the Soviet Union. When Germany broke the treaty with the Soviet Union the Soviet Union asked to join the Allies in the fight against the Axis Powers.
