Identify examples of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in Frederick Douglass's "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?"
alukav5142 [94]

Answer:

Explanation:

Ethos, Pathos, Logos in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

Infographic to display Ethos, Pathos and Logos

LOGOS

Douglass makes a convincing argument due to his well-written, logical account. He uses sophisticated vocabulary along with specific, verifiable names and geographic locations. He writes fairly and gives credit where it is due in order to avoid accusations of unjust bias.

PATHOS

Douglass describes the cruel beatings slaves received in vivid detail. His eloquent language inspires pity in the reader. His accounts are most powerful when he describes witnessing the abuse of others as a terrified child. He writes, "No words, no tears, no prayers, from his gory victim, seemed to move his iron heart from its bloody purpose...I was quite a child, but I remember it. I shall never forget it whilst I remember anything."

ETHOS

Douglass's narrative begins with a preface by well-known abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison and a letter from abolitionist Wendell Phillips. These respected men act as witnesses, testifying to Douglass's good character. Douglass also builds his credibility by refusing to believe in superstitions and depicting himself as a hard-working, intelligent, church-going Christian

Write an essay explaining why it is sometimes necessary to take a chance just a summary and thesis
Anna007 [38]

Answer:

Many people sometimes take a chance not because they want to but because they need to. Just like when a basketball game that is tied with a few seconds left and they take the chance of shooting the ball through the hoop to win the State Champion. People should take a chance when they can, especially when there won’t be any loss if take that chance. Thus, people should take a chance because it can help them to be successful and change their mind by taking that chance.

Basketball, soccer, football, tennis and all other sports sometimes need to take chances when the games are close. For example, Nick plays tennis at White Oak High School. Once he was playing a match with a guy name Zach from Gladewater. While the score was deuce and they weren’t playing with ads. Nick took a chance of a fast serve and the tennis ball went over the net and aced Zach which helped Nick win the match. This chance led Nick to the next level because he took the chance that the win became successful. In addition, White Oak basketball game on a Tuesday night against Spring Hill. Spring Hill took the lead by two points with twelve seconds left in White Oak’s hand. Nike passed to Conner, then Dax, and at last to Jake Pullen with a three point, wide open, and swish through the winning net. Just like when Nick took his chance serving and Jake took a chance of shooting a basketball. These chances became a surprise to both of them by taking that chance that brought them great joys. Therefore, it is necessary to take a chance because it can give you a great rejoice with memories.

Summer trips, Pine cove, and The Rise are all choices that people decide. Sometimes people take a chance to go to a trip that they have never been before and after the trip their mind can be changed from dislike to loving that trip. For example, Billy’s father told Billy that he can go to a summer trip but Billy declined to his father’s offering, but Billy changed his mind and was going to take that chance. After the summer trip when he came back he was talking about that trip for a week and talking about how he loves it. Billy took a chance to go to the trip which changed his mind about the trip and gave him joy. In addition, Sam hate to eat ketchup but once when he went to his grandparents house to eat lunch together. His grandpa grilled hamburgers and brought to the table. Billy grabbed one and started to eat. Then his grandma suggested to him to use the ketchup on the fries. Billy didn’t want to deny to his grandma, so he dipped his fries in the ketchup. When he put it in his mouth he changed his mind and love the ketchup more than the hamburgers. When he took that chance he realized he was wrong which fell in love with ketchup.

Therefore, taking a chance is necessary sometimes because it can be helpful when needed and also gives a great future decisions.
