Often known as the “Atlanta Compromise,” was the first speech given by any African American man, Booker T. Washington. The speech was delivered in the South in front of different races. The speech suggested that African Americans should not be disturbed by the political and social inequality and should not only depend on the economic development of the New South to gain opportunities and acquire vocational training. It was Washington’s belief that through hard-earned respect and hard work, African Americans will eventually gain esteem in white society and full citizenship ultimately.
E.W. Scripture is the early pioneer in sport psychology that took a more scientific, data based approach to psychology, seeing sport as an excellent way to demonstrate the value of this "new scientific psychology" and to investigate character development in sport.
