Ethnic Geography vs. Racial Geography and Racialization.

Social Studies

Answer:

1. Explain why race is a social construct.

Race is not a good proxy for biological and genetic differences between human groups. What is socially understood as "race" does not correspond to biological or genetic differences.

2. Name and discuss two institutional mechanisms that segregated non-Whites nationwide.

The Jim Crow Laws segregated whites and non-whites in public facilities in the South for almost  a century: from shortly after the end of the civil war until they were struck down by the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Redlining is another social institution that has been used to segregate non-whites. Redlining consists in the denial of certain services (housing, commerce, industry) in specific areas of a city, to a specific group of people, often a "race".

3. Explain the difference between ethnic and racial geography.

Ethnic geography studies ethnic groups and their territorial distribution. An ethnic group or ethnicity is an anthropological concept that refers to a group of people that share a common culture.

Racial geography studies the so-called "human races" and their territorial distribution. Race is primarily a biological concept but it does not hold validity for human populations as explained previosly.

seraphim [82]

Answer:

Vicarious reinforcement

Explanation:

The increase in Danny's violent behaviour is attributed by the behavioural theorists to a vicarious reinforcement because Danny recognises the fact that a rival gang member was senselessly murdered by their gang leader and still got rewarded and respected by the gang members thereby imitating the actions of his gang leader because he saw that the gang leader was greatly rewarded after killing a rival gang member

Many historians believe the silk road contributed to the spread of
Ymorist [56]

Answer:

The Silk Road was a network of trade routes connecting China and the Far East with the Middle East and Europe. Established when the Han Dynasty in China officially opened trade with the West in 130 B.C., the Silk Road routes remained in use until 1453 A.D., when the Ottoman Empire boycotted trade with China and closed them. Although it’s been nearly 600 years since the Silk Road has been used for international trade, the routes had a lasting impact on commerce, culture and history that resonates even today.

Royal Road

The Silk Road may have formally opened up trade between the Far East and Europe during the Han Dynasty, which ruled China from 206 B.C. to 220 A.D. Han Emperor Wu sent imperial envoy Zhang Qian to make contact with cultures in Central Asia in 138 B.C., and his reports from his journeys conveyed valuable information about the people and lands that lay to the West. But the transport of goods and services along these routes dates back even further.

The Royal Road, which connected Susa (in present-day Iran) more than 1,600 miles west to Sardis (near the Mediterranean Sea in modern Turkey), was established by the Persian ruler Darius I during the Achaemenid Empire—some 300 years before the opening of the Silk Road.

The Persians also expanded the Royal Road to include smaller routes that connected Mesopotamia to the Indian subcontinent as well as northern Africa via Egypt.
