Gary Paulsen's "Hatchet" is a novel that focuses on a thirteen year-old adolescent named Brian Robeson from NYC whose parents recently divorced. His father was in Canada which explains why he went to travel there to visit him. During the flight, the pilot has a heart attack which is when Brian takes control and crashes the plane into a lake. In the middle of nowhere, he breaks the fuselage with the hatchet his mother gave him before he left, allowing him to reflect how everything happens for a reason and how grateful he should be in life. For nearly fifty days, Brian was hungry and had the little food he would cook from the wilderness. He never gave up hope and even though he believed that he would never be rescued from his location, he started to adapt to this new life of his. Fortunately, the end put a grin on his face when he was saved right before winter arrived.

Which excerpts from "The Caged Bird" can be interpreted as part of the extended metaphor that represents freedom?
andriy [413]

Answer:

  • floats downstream
  • the trade winds soft
  • dawn-bright lawn

Explanation:

A metaphor is a figure of speech that allows the author of a text to present an implicit comparison between two elements. In a poem, this metaphor will be used in one or a few lines, but it will not be extended throughout the text, unless this is an extended metaphor. The extended metaphor expands the comparison to a long piece of text, or to the full text. In this case, the concept presented by the comparison is repeated throughout the text at different times, always pointing to the same subject. In the poem "The Caged Bird" written by Maya Angelou, we can see examples of the metaphor extended in the lines "downstream floats," "the trade winds soft" and "dawn-bright lawn," all of which reinforce the sense of freedom.

Read about recycled wastewater here. Write one paragraph that presents your evaluation of the writer’s argument. The evaluation
STatiana [176]

Answer:

Recycling wastewater can extend water supplies, improve water quality, reduce discharge and disposal costs of wastewater, and save energy. Most recycled water comes from treated municipal wastewater or sewage, though other sources include domestic gray water.

What are 3 ways wastewater can be recycled?

The following are some of the typical technologies: Ozonation, ultrafiltration, aerobic treatment (membrane bioreactor), forward osmosis, reverse osmosis, advanced oxidation. Some water demanding activities do not require high grade water. In this case, wastewater can be reused with little or no treatment.

Why is recycling wastewater important?

Treated and recycled wastewater provides a cost-efficient supply that decreases the demands – and stress – on freshwater sources such as groundwater, rivers, and reservoirs. This is particularly important in areas that have been affected by water scarcity and drought.
