The epic story of Odysseus in Homer's "The Odyssey" shows the decades long journey of Odyssey and his eventual return to his kingdom of Ithaca. he had been away from home for more than two decades, leaving his son and wife to fight in the Battle of Troy.

Odysseus had been absent from his home during which a group of suitors had descended upon his wife Penelope, asking her to remarry and get a new king for Ithaca. Then for the competition to see who is suitable to marry Penelope, Odyssey also took part in it.
