You could use synonyms to make your writing seem less monotonous, so when you have used a particular word that is not integral to the topic frequently, you may want to use a synonym. You could also use a synonym with a different connotation (the feeling you get from a word, what comes to mind) if you feel that the word you are replacing doesn't match the tone that you are presenting.

Which two phrases in this excerpt from act three scene one of hamlet show Shakespeare’s use of similes
sleet_krkn [62]

Taking into account that a simile is a literary device used to compare two unlike things, the following examples provide a clear use of this resource in Shakespeare's masterpiece "Hamlet" (act three scene one):

King Claudios: <em>"For we have closely sent for Hamlet hither, that he, </em><em>as </em><em>'twere by accident, may here affront Ophelia."  </em>

Ophelia: "...<em>words of so sweet breath composed  </em><em>as</em><em> made the things more rich..."</em>

Words such as "like" or "as" help the reader identify the use of this figurative speech.

The core of a realistic novel is:<br> a. setting<br> b. conflict<br> c. characterization
klio [65]
In general, the core of a realistic novel is "<span>conflict" since this is what oftentimes captivates the readers most, but it could be other things as well. </span>
