Mammalian red blood cells contain hemoglobin as its primary unit for oxygen and carbon dioxide transportation. In order to increase the efficiency of transport (increase the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide transported per red blood cell), the red blood cells' structure are designed to be biconcave. This efficient structure of the red blood cells increases it function compared to a spherical red blood cell (low surface area, i.e. hereditary spherocytosis). <span>This is an example of the relationship between structure and function of the red blood cells. </span>Also, the biconcave shape of the red blood cell makes it more resilient to early destruction in the small capillaries and the spleen (since the spleen is mostly responsible for red blood cell turnover, which is every 120 days).

Which of the following are useful traits of cloning vectors?
SSSSS [86.1K]

Answer:

The correct answer is option - e. all of the above are useful traits.

Explanation:

A cloning vector is a small segment of DNA that can be established stably in an individual organism and able to internalize a foreign DNA for cloning purposes. The cloning vector could be taken from different organisms such as plasmid of a bacterium, or DNA from a virus. A cloning vector must possess some characteristics -

The cloning vector must be self-replicating ability in the host cells, it should be small in size with restriction site for the restriction endonuclease enzymes in it. The replication character of the vector should not interfere with the internalized DNA fragment. The presence of marker genes in the vector is also a property that is helpful in identifying of recombinant cells.

Thus, the correct answer is option - e. all of the above are useful traits.

LenKa [72]

Answer:

The best way to classify two different organisms that have similar appearance and are found in the same environment is to use gel-electrophoresis to compare DNA patterns.

Explanation:

When organism possesses the same physical characteristics and are found in the same environment the genetic test must be varried out to ascertain their differences such as DNA test using electrophoresis to compare such

2 Explain why fossil fuels contain large amounts of carbon compounds.
Korvikt [17]

Fossil fuels release carbon dioxide gas when they burn which adds to the greenhouse effect and increases global warming. Of the three fossil fuels, for a given amount of energy released, coal produces the most carbon dioxide and natural gas produces the least.
