Its Important for places such as the rainforest where a lot of our medicines come from. If biodiversity is not maintained there then we will be unable to provide treatment for people suffering from certain diseases that can only be cured through the use of rainforest plants. Also as viruses and bacteria get stronger and mutate we need to be developing new drugs from different plants species. Animals can also help with out understanding of resistance to certain diseases.
