The lines through side AB and side AC tell us that both sides are congruent, and by the isosceles triangle theorem that means that m∠ABC = m∠ACB so
m∠ABC = 40
Since all 3 angles in a triangle always add up to 180, we know that
(40) + (5x) + (2y + 20) = 180
We substitute our known value for 5x and solve for y:
40 + 40 + 2y + 20 = 180
2y + 100 = 180
subtract 100 from both sides
2y = 80
divide both sides by 2 to get our answer:
y = 40

You can see if the other angles add up to 180 or 360 degrees (depending on shape) then add them to make it the number, for example, if a triangle has a right angle, then the other 2 angles are 45 degrees, knowing that EVERY triangle's angles add up to 180 degrees.

Find the Perimeter of this shape. Can someone explain to me how to find the perimeter.
Agata [3.3K]
The little lines in each side show that the sides are the same length but you also need to find the length of the smaller side which isn’t the same. For this imagine that the shape is split into a square and a triangle and you need to find the long side of the triangle using Pythagoras
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
20^2 + 20^2 = 800
Square root of 800 = 28.3
Then do 28.3-20=8.3
So I think the answer is 20+20+20+20+20+8.3=108.3 cm

Find the equation of a line that passes through (5,-3) and is perpendicular to y = x.
VashaNatasha [74]
We know the slope is -1, because perpendicular line's slopes are always the negative reciprocal. We plug (5, -3) in to get:
-3 = -5 + b
b = 2
So we get C. y = -x + 2.

Hope this helps!

A coin collector has $45 in just dimes and quarters in a piggy bank he counted all the coins and there are 240 total how many ea
Whitepunk [10]

Answer:

The number of <u>dimes are 100</u> and number of <u>quarters are 140.</u>

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of dimes be 'd' and quarters be 'q'.

Given:

The sum of amount is $45.

The total number of coins are 240.

1 dime = $0.10

∴ 'd' dimes = \$0.10d

1 quarter = $0.25

∴ 'q' quarters = \$0.25q

Now, as per question:

d+m=240-----1\\0.1d+0.25q=45---2

Multiplying equation (1) by -0.1 and adding the result to equation (2), we get:

-0.1d-0.1q=240\times -0.1\\-0.1d-0.1q=-24\\0.1d+0.25q=45\\-----------\\0.15q=21\\q=\frac{21}{0.15}=140\\\\d=240-q=240-140=100

Therefore, the number of dimes are 100 and number of quarters are 140.
