The enumerated powers of the U.S. President refers to those powers listed and specifically granted to the president, mainly in Sections 2 and 3 of Article II of the U.S. Constitution. One of those enumerated powers is <u>to grant reprieves (lessening of a judicial sentence already imposed) or pardon (absolution from guilt) to anyone who had committed a crime or a legal offense toward the United States, except in cases of impeachment.</u>

The 38th president of the United States, Gerald Ford, used this power when he granted an unconditional pardon to Richard Nixon, the former American President who had been accused of being involved in a major political scandal: the Watergate scandal.
