<span>In the tertulias that Juana Manuela Gorriti hosted, several men and women, usually with decent educations and thus middle or upper class backgrounds, would gather and discuss literary themes, and issues that Gorriti was passionate about, such as the role of women (Gorriti was a feminist).</span>
Frida used symbology and surrealism to depict her experiences. she created images depicting her pain, her isolation and her trauma in order to relate those experiences to her audience.
