Mathematics

1. Yes x^2 + 4x + 4 - 4 + 3 = 0 is still equivalent to x^2 + 4x + 3 = 0 since whilst we have added a 4 to the function, we have also subtracted a 4, and since +4 - 4 = 0, we haven't actually changed the value of the equation

2. -1 is the sum of -4 and 3

3. (x + 2)^2 - 1 = (x + 2 + sq.root of 1)(x + 2 - sq.root of 1)
= (x + 2 + 1)(x + 2 - 1)
= (x + 3)(x + 1)
(x + 3)(x + 1) = 0
x = -3 or x = -1

Hope that makes sense :)

What is the least common denominator of the expression below? x2 x2 − 16 + 9 + x 8x + 2x2
eduard

The least common denominator of the rational expression [x²/(x² - 16)] + [(9+x)/(8 · x + 2 · x²)] found by factor their denominators is 2 · (x + 4) · (x - 4).

How to find a least common denominator of a rational equation

Rational numbers are formed by numbers of the form n/m, where n and m are integers known as numerator and denominator, respectively. The least common denominator is the least denominator between a group of rational functions such that they get the same denominator.

In this case we have two denominators: x² - 16, 8 · x + 2 · x². We can determine the least common denominator by factoring each expression and discovering known terms:

x² - 16 = (x + 4) · (x - 4)

8 · x + 2 · x² = 2 · x · (x + 4)

The least common denominator of the rational expression [x²/(x² - 16)] + [(9+x)/(8 · x + 2 · x²)] found by factor their denominators is 2 · (x + 4) · (x - 4).

____ [38]
We have to calculate the rate of commission of the total sales amount. We know that the total sales amount is $38,642.00 and it represents 100%. A salesman received $2,704.94 in commission and it represents x%. The proportion is: 38,624.00 : 2,704.94 = 100 : x; 38,624.00 x = 270,794 ; x = 270,794 : 38,624; x = 7% . Answer: His rate of commission is .07 or 7%.
