The correct answer is "denotation". Denotation means the literal or primary meaning of a word, which is what is found in a dictionary. Denotation is the opposite of connotation that means the feelings or ideas that a word invokes. One example is the word "Shrewd" which denotation is "having good judgment," but it has a negative connotation.

Read the excerpt from "Harrison Bergeron." "I am the Emperor!" cried Harrison. "Do you hear? I am the Emperor! Everybody must do
MaRussiya [10]

Answer:

The correct answer to the question: What do Harrison´s words and actions reveal about his character, would be, B: He wants to rebel against the law and show off his superior gifts.

Explanation:

Harrison Bergeron" is a science fiction, dystopian short story that was written by author Kurt Vonnegut, and it was first published in 1961. The story is set in the year 2081, when the U.S Constitution, through several Amendments has ordered that all citizens must be alike, all must have the same abilities, physical aspects, and capabilitie as the others, thus reaching absolute, and real, equality. In order to achieve this, the government takes steps to ensure that no one is more beautiful, better physically endowed, or better prepared, than the others. However, Harrison, son of George and Hazel Bergeron, has been born athletic, beautiful, tall and very intelligent, and he refuses to adapt to society´s impositions, for which he is taken to prison. When Harrison gets out of jail, he goes to a T.V station where he takes over for a moment and declares himself Emperor, and a ballerina, his Empress. He takes off his handicaps and those of the ballerina, and in this excerpt, he tries to take control of the stituation, take over power, and show the world that it is BECAUSE of his superior circumstances that he can have the power. This is a clear intent by Harrison to rebel against what has been the standard until then, oppose it and show that his superior conditions make him the best, and most appropriate, to rule.

Read this excerpt from Joseph Stalin's radio broadcast on July 3, 1941:
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

It really depends on what was underlined. There are two possibilities.

  • I think that not a single peace loving State could  decline a peace treaty with a neighboring State even  though the latter was headed by such fiends and cannibals  as Hitler and Ribbentrop.
  • Non-aggression pacts are pacts of peace between two  States. It was such a pact that Germany proposed to us in  1939.

The first one is irony of the highest order. Though Stalin was correct in his assessment of Hitler and Ribbentrop, he didn't include himself (who may have been the worst of the three), in his description.

The second one is just a definition of what a non-aggression pact was.

I would pick B. The real problem is what is underlined. B is the truth. It was actually Hitler's plan to invade Russia long before it happened. Not only that, he was so confident of victory that he did not order his textile industry to make protective clothing when he did invade Russia. He thought it would be over in Russia long before such clothing was needed.
