Answer:

The battle of Saratoga

Explanation:

The battle of Saratoga was one of the most important military clashes fought during the course of the United States War of Independence. Its outcome contributed, to a large extent, to deciding the final outcome of the contest in favor of the continental army. This battle took place between September 19 and October 17, 1777 in Saratoga, a region located between Boston and the Great Lakes area, near the Hudson River. British General John Burgoyne sought to isolate New England from the rest of the northern colonies and cause as many casualties as possible among the ranks of the rebel army. His plan was to trace the Hudson River valley from Montreal, where his columns were gathered, climbing along this river road with the support of British troops based in New York. The latter, led by General Howe, would attack from the north and join him in Albany to create a common front and undertake a joint offensive. The victory strengthened the possibility of triumph of the citizen militias over a line army, which precipitated the support of France (1778) and the Spanish Empire (1779) to the American independence cause.
