Read the excerpt from "Wherefore Art Thou Romeo?” I shrugged. Shondra waited. Finally, I pained my head toward the classroom nex

t door. We both knew that my nemesis, Allison Ramon, was in there. Since the third grade, Allison and I had battled for the lead in every school play. Usually we both ended up on stage in one role or another. But tomorrow’s reading was a class assignment, and Allison wasn’t in the class. She was free to wreak havoc from the audience.

I would choose the first answer, "Competed intensely."

The other choices don't make as much sense in this context. Since this excerpt seem to be based on a school setting, it is unlikely that the two characters would be fighting violently or angrily arguing. And "secretly tricked" doesn't fit this context at all. So it would be safe to say that the answer to this is the first choice.

Svetach [21]

Answer: C. The fist the drill sergeant hides behind his back represents the power he has over the men.

A symbol is a mark, a sign, a word, a gesture, an idea or an image that is used to convey an idea or belief. Symbols create links between otherwise very different concepts and experiences. In this case, the best example of the use of a symbol is option C. The symbol in this sentence is the fist the drill sergeant has behind his back. Moreover, the sentence tells us that this is meant to represent the power that he has over men.

The sum of the first and third of three consecutive even integers is 156. Find the three even integers
Natalka [10]
Let, the integers = x, x+2, x+4

It is given that, x + x+2 + x+4 = 156
3x + 6 = 156
3x = 156 - 6
x = 150/3
x = 50

So, x+2 = 52; x+4 = 54

In short, Your Three Integers would be 50, 52 & 54

Hope this helps!
