Personally, i believe that it was more harmful actually.
First of all, there were many accounts of inequality and discrimination towards the indigenous population - which is not surprising as the belief was that not Christians are not really humans
And second, this has a long lasting effect today in Americas in that people see the indigenous population as inferior...
