Read these sentences from the text. The pause is an exceedingly important feature in any kind of story, and a frequently recurri

ng feature, too. It is a dainty thing, and delicate, and also uncertain and treacherous; for it must be exactly the right length—no more and no less—or it fails of its purpose and makes trouble. Which response best explains the effect of the word choice on the meaning of the sentences? The pause is used too often and can distort the meaning of a story. The pause is rarely used correctly and should be avoided when telling a story. The pause must be used expertly in order to be effective. The pause should be used infrequently in order to maximize its impact.

The answer is:

The pause must be used expertly in order to be effective.

In the excerpt, the pause is an important literary device that must be used extremely carefully because it is so delicate and subtle that it might cause inconvenience to the reader or make the text miss its objective. For that reason, Mark Twain suggests that the pause is employed with absolute precision: neither too short nor too long.

Review the Oath of Office for the President and Vice President. What would you add or change to reflect the responsibilities of
Vedmedyk [2.9K]

Answer:  Thats for you to write/type about in your own words and thoughts.

Explanation:

The oath of office of the president of the United States is the oath or affirmation that the president of the United States takes after assuming the presidency but before exercising or carrying out any presidential powers or duties. The wording of the oath is specified in Article II, Section One, Clause 8, of the United States Constitution.

This clause is one of three oath or affirmation clauses in the Constitution, but it is the only one that actually specifies the words that must be spoken. Article I, Section 3 requires Senators, when sitting to try impeachments, to be "on Oath or Affirmation." Article VI, Clause 3, similarly requires the persons specified therein to "be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution." The presidential oath requires much more than that general oath of allegiance and fidelity. This clause enjoins the new president to swear or affirm that he "will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
