Odysseus possesses both leadership and bravery. He was brave because he had the courage to enter the cyclopes cave knowing he'd find danger there. He was able to fight and the cyclopes and escape it's cave with his few men. He presented himself as the leader of the crew. He lead them in the cave and came up with a clever escape plan so that they my exit out.
Bravery, Odysseus fought a one eyed giant - or so they say - and he also dared to enter Medussa's lair. Strenght, when Odysseus did not come back home for many years, the men of his kingdom tought him dead and wanted to marry his wife, for the man who takes Odysseus's wife would rule his kingdom. However, the wife was so smart and she told them whoever could shoot an arrow with her husband's bow would take her hand. She knew that only Odysseus with his strenght would be able able to shoot with the bow, and so no one could achieve what she asked until he came himslef and returned to his wife and they lived happily ever after.
The imagery assists in setting the overall tone of suspicion, saying that the area is beautiful but feels dangerous. It assists in adding symbolism as well as giving the reader a sense of foreboding.
