Hi there!

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was significant because it was the second continental congress that charted a government for territory in Northwest America. It also helped forbid slavery, and made a method of admitting new states near the Union.

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was passed by the U. S. government which led to the creation of Northwest Territory out of land gained by Great Britain.

Further Explanation:

The ordinance was passed under the Articles of Confederation. It was important because now, new states could become a part of the Union. As per the Ordinance, no less than three and no more than five states could be created out of the territories. Ohio, in 1803 was the first state to be admitted into the union from the Northwest Territory. This was followed by followed by Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Some of the rights included in the Ordinance were freedom of religion, habeas corpus rights, and property rights, among others. Most importantly, slavery was prohibited in the Northwest Territory and in this way, Ohio turned into a dividing line between slave and non-slave states.

Why did the US government continue to use a reservation system for American in
KonstantinChe [14]

Answer:

American Indian tribes were relocated to reservations in the 1850s because the federal government wanted "to give white settlers more land", however it is also true that many whites wanted the natives to have their own land, but this was not the primary reason.
