There were many events that helped develop the ambience for World War II, but the inmediate cause was the German invasion of Poland in Hitler's attempt to expand his territory and influence to the rest of Europe after terribly losing most of what made Germany a major world power in WWI, which led to Britain and France taking charge to stop said advance.
