A Loyalist is an individual in favor of the American colonies remaining loyal to Britain. After 1763, when the relationship between the colonists and the British govenrment would start to turn for the worse, Loyalists would use some of the following reasoning to continue their relationship with Great Britain.

1) Military strength- At this time, Great Britain had one of the strongest militaries in the entire world. This ensured that American colonies had adequate protection. This was especially used during the French and Indian War.

2) Economic relationship- The American colonists consistent trade with Britain ensured that American merchants would continue to prosper.
