Some literary critics believe that a large portion of the tale may have been written before the rest of the Canterbury Tales and that the four most contemporary figures were added at a later point. A likely dating for this hypothetical first draft of the text would be the 1370s, shortly after Chaucer returned from a trip to Italy where he was exposed to Giovanni Boccaccio's Concerning the Falls of Illustrious Men as well as other works such as the Decameron. The tragedy of Bernabò Visconti must have been written after 1385, the date of the protagonist's death. The basic structure for the tale is modeled after the Giovanni Boccaccio's Illustrious Men, while the tale of Ugolino of Pisa is retold from Dante's Inferno

Match each satirical quote to its real meaning.
dedylja [7]
I have to use process of elimination here because as much as Lord Byron is a wonderful wordsmith, Don Juan can be so very confusing to me at times. No matter, here we go:

The Peter Bell The Third quote is "criticises the subject for having abundant knowledge of the world but low self-awareness". A few clues; "all things he seemed to understand" and then "but his own mind... was a mist".

The first Don Juan quote is "criticises the subject for confusing his audience". This one was harder, but the clues here are: "I wish he would explain his explanation". This seems to suggest the audience is confused.

That leaves the final Don Juan quote in the middle to be "criticises his subject for his half baked knowledge".

Hope that I could help!
