1. Read these lines from “The Darkling Thrush,” by Thomas Hardy.
netineya [11]

The correct answers are:

1. The correct answer is the option that reads “imagery, because the lines help the reader picture what Hardy describes”. In the lines presented above from the book “The Darkling Thrush” by Thomas Hardy (1900), Hardy made use of the literary device “imagery”. By definition, imagery means using figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in a way that they appeal to our physical senses. Therefore, it helps the reader picture what the author describes. In this case, imagery helps the reader picture the description of the thrush that Hardy makes.

2. The correct answer is the option that reads “sight”. The line “When frost was spectre-gray” from “The Darkling Thrush” by Thomas Hardy (1900) is an example of visual imagery because it appeals to the sense of sight by describing the colour of the frost as “spectre-gray”.

3. The verb that agrees with the bolded subject of the sentence is “is”. The dictionary is one book that is in most libraries.

4. The verb that agrees with the bolded subject of the sentence is “was”. I gave directions to the tourist who was lost.

5. The verb that agrees with the bolded subject of the sentence is “was”. The Statue of Liberty is one of the gifts that was given to us by the French.

Why do they decide to wait until nightfall to peek into radley house?
Basile [38]
So they won't be seen; so Atticus will be busy reading; because if they were killed they'd miss school instead of vacation and because it is easier to see inside a dark house in the dark rather than in the daytime.

Hope this helps

What does della buy jim

cricket20 [7]

Answer:

Della buys Jim a watch fob because his watch is his most prized possession.

Explanation:

Della and Jim Young do not have much money. Despite this, Della really wants to buy Jim a good Christmas present. She is even willing to sell her hair to get him a nice gift.

This is ironic because we learn Della and Jim both highly prize her hair.

Now, there were two possessions of the James Dillingham Youngs in which they both took a mighty pride. One was Jim's gold watch that had been his father's and his grandfather's. The other was Della's hair.

Della is still willing to sell her hair so she can buy Jim a really nice gift to show him how much she loves him. She searches high and low until she finds it, and then doesn’t think twice before buying it.

It was a platinum fob chain simple and chaste in design, properly proclaiming its value by substance alone and not by meretricious ornamentation — as all good things should do. It was even worthy of The Watch.

The fact that Della sold her hair becomes even more ironic when we learn Jim sold his watch in order to buy her a nice hair set. Della sold her hair to buy him a fob for a watch he no longer has, and he sold his watch to buy combs for hair she no longer has.

One thing is for sure, hair grows back. Della knows her hair will eventually be beautiful again, so she did not mind selling it too much. Her hair was her most prized possession. Once it grows back, she will be able to enjoy the combs. Unfortunately, the watch fob is kind of useless unless Jem gets his watch back.
