A small craft in lake Ontario sends out a distances signal. The coordinates of the boat in trouble are (57,64). One rescue boat

is at the coordinates (67,83) and a second coast guard craft is at coordinates (65,46). Assuming both rescue crafts travel at the same rate, which one get to the distressed boat the fastest?

Answer:

The coast guard craft will get to the distressed boat the fastest.

Step-by-step explanation:

The coordinates of boat are (57,64).

The coordinates of rescue boat are (67,83).

The  coordinates of coast guard craft are (65,46).

Both rescue crafts travel at the same rate. One of them will get to the distressed boat the faster, whose distance from the boat is least.

Distance formula:

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

The distance between boat and rescue boat is

d_1=\sqrt{(67-57)^2+(83-64)^2}=21.4709105536\approx 21.47

The distance between boat and coast guard craft is

d_2=\sqrt{(65-57)^2+(46-64)^2}=19.6977156036\approx 19.70

Since the distance between boat and coast guard craft is least, therefore coast guard craft will get to the distressed boat the fastest.

A test taker gets 70 on 1st exam, 80 on 2nd exam, 2/3 of 4/5 of his 2nd exam on his 3rd test. If the professor gives 5 points ex
Serga [27]
<h3>Answer:  127</h3>

=================================================

Explanation:

The phrasing "2/3 of 4/5 of his 2nd exam on his 3rd test" is a bit clunky in my opinion. It seems more complicated than it has to be.

The student got 80 on the second exam. 4/5 of this is (4/5)*80 = 0.8*80 = 64. Then we take 2/3 of this to get (2/3)*64 = 42.667 approximately. If we assume only whole number scores are given, then this would round to 43.

Let x be the score on the fourth exam. Since 5 points of extra credit are given, the student actually got x+5 points on this exam.

So we have these scores

  • first exam = 70
  • second exam = 80
  • third exam = 43
  • fourth exam = x+5

Adding up these scores and dividing by 4 will get us the average

(sum of scores)/(number of scores) = average

(70+80+43+x+5)/4 = 80

(x+198)/4 = 80

x+198 = 4*80

x+198 = 320

x = 320 - 198

x = 122

So the student got a score of x+5 = 122+5 = 127 on the fourth exam.

Karen plans to drive to a national park that is 582.8 miles away her car gets 23.5 miles on 1 gallon of gasoline gasoline cost $
NARA [144]

Answer: The correct answer is $85.56

Step-by-step explanation:

If Karen gets 23.5 miles per one gallon of gas, we divide 582.8 miles by 23.5 to see how many gallons she will use to go the 582.8 miles. The answer is 24.8 gallons. (582.8/23.5=24.8)

We then multiply 24.8 ( the total amount of gallons) x $3.45 (per gallon)= $85.56 for the entire trip
