President Johnson and Congress fought over who would be in control of Reconstruction. What was the most important disagreement t
hey had? They each felt their plan was the better of the two.

President Johnson was appointed as President after the murder of Lincoln who proposed 10 Decree plan to Refurbish southern states by uniting them into the Union of states but President Johnson’ plan proved to be too merciful parallel to Lincoln’s proposal of reconstruction.
Radical Republicans wanted enfranchisement of freed blacks in a swift process but President Johnson who supported the Elite aristocrats and planters made Radical republicans think that the Africans would be re-slaved by the planters.
Four confederate generals occupied the seat in the legislature and supported the abolition of slavery. This enraged Congress which at last impeached President Johnson’s power.
The Twenty-fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution prohibits both Congress and the states from conditioning the right to vote in federal elections on payment of a poll tax or other types of tax.
