Which of the following was a key element of the american system?
klasskru [66]

Protective tariffs  were a key element of the American system. These are tariffs that are enacted aiming to protect a domestic industry. Protective tariffs seek to make imported goods cost more than equivalent goods produced in the country, leading to the rise of sales of domestically produced goods; supporting local industry. Tariffs are also imposed in an attempt to increase government revenue, or to reduce an undesirable activity.

What army held Ft. Sumter in March 1861? Why was this army forced to surrender the fort?
TiliK225 [7]

Answer:

Confederate forces held Fort Sumter in March 1861

Explanation:

"Following Beauregard's bombardment in 1861, Confederate forces occupied Fort Sumter and used it to marshal a defense of Charleston Harbor. Once it was completed and better armed, Fort Sumter allowed the Confederates to create a valuable hole in the Union blockade of the Atlantic seaboard."

"Major Robert Anderson...was forced to surrender it to Southern forces and returned to the North disappointed that he had not been able to postpone a civil war." because his troops were running out of supplies. They were on the verge of starving.

I hope this helps...

If policemen had as much power to enforce the law as Congress had under the Articles of Confederation to enforce taxes and raise
BARSIC [14]

Answer:

under the Articles of Confederation, Congress could regulate the army, but could not compel the states to send troops. In other words, it could not really raise troops.

As for taxation, under said articles, Congress had no power whatsoevar to tax the states. It could only earn revenue by asking the states for money.

If policemen had as much power as Congress under the Articles of Confederation, then, the police would practically be powerless. I would have to look for funding through private donations, because it would not be entitled to any tax money.

Police would also probably be understaffed, so it would have to rely on voluntaries and people who have a passion for law enforcement.
