Elephants are mammals and the largest existing mammals. Elephants have risk of losing a population due to the death of individual because the reproduce and produce few offsprings. Elephants normally give birth to a calf in a year but sometimes twins are give birth and they get pregnant for 18 to 22 months. The calves of elephants are some how fragile and they may not survive to adulthood if the mother cannot feed them with milk. Elephants has low multiplication rates and they are endangered species and going into extinction because of the activities of man.

Compare to bacteria , rats and flies that have high multiplication rate, elephants reproduce few offsprings in a year.
