Final maturation process of sperm in female tract before fertilization accomplished by binding of sperm to a glycosaminoglycan
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]
Mammalian fertilization comprises sperm migration through the female reproductive tract, biochemical and morphological changes to sperm, and sperm-egg interaction in the oviduct. Recent gene knockout approaches in mice have revealed that many factors previously considered important for fertilization are largely dispensable, or if they are essential, they have an unexpected function. These results indicate that what has been observed in in vitro fertilization (IVF) differs significantly from what occurs during “physiological” fertilization. This Review focuses on the advantages of studying fertilization using gene-manipulated animals and highlights an emerging molecular mechanism of mammalian fertilization.

How many sperm cells are formed from an original cell in a Drosophila fruit fly at the conclusion of meiosis?
julsineya [31]

Answer:

C. Four Haploid Sperm Cells

Explanation:

Meiosis is a cell division measure that creates four haploid cells (gametes) from a solitary diploid germline cell. In males, meiosis is essential for spermatogenesis, the cycle to produce sperm. Sperm are the haploid cells that are produced in meiosis.

Meiosis is a profoundly moderated cell division measure in eukaryotes that produces 4 cells (gametes) from a solitary cell (mother). Nonetheless, Nondisjunction in the male of Drosophila causes much of the time sperm with an addition or loss of chromosomes.

9. Consider the below Punnett square cross. Explain how you could use it to determine which parent
kogti [31]

Answer: The father determines the biological sex of a baby

Explanation: Human beings have two sex chromosomes, males have XY chromosomes whereas females have XX chromosomes. During fertilization, an egg from a woman fuses with a sperm cell from a man to form a zygote. Women have two X chromosomes (XX) and any point in time they can only release an egg bearing an X chromosome but males have one X and one Y chromosome, therefore they can either release a sperm cell with an X chromosome or a sperm cell with a Y chromosome. When an egg with X-chromosome fuses with a sperm cell with an X chromosome, the resulting baby is a female but when an egg with an X chromosome fuses with a sperm cell with a Y chromosome, the resulting baby is a male.

What makes the difference in both sexes is the Y chromosome from the man, therefore the father determines the biological sex of a baby.
