When carbohydrate is metabolized without oxygen, it is called FERMENTATION. Metabolisms of glucose under anaerobic condition (without oxygen) produce latic acid and the process is called fermentation. Fermentation process can occur in muscles which do not have oxygen giving rise to lactic acid.<span />
