The correct answer is D) most of the good farmland near the coast.

Beginning in the 1660s, wealthy Virginia tobacco planters bought most of the good farmland near the coast.

Tobacco was the king of crops in the colony of Virginia. It represented a great business for planters. It was John Rolfe the one who brought some tobacco seeds from the Island of Trinidad, in the Caribbean. This tobacco had grey leaves and a bitter taste that was better than the one Europeans consumed. That is why this tobacco was well accepted in Europe and Virginia and plantation owners exported the crop and bought most of the good farmland near the coast.

What is the Economic Cost of American Civil War?

The estimated cost is about $3.3 billion, spent by both the government and the estimated human capital lost in the war was about $2.2 billion, and physical destruction was under $1.5 billion.

The total bill for the war came to about $7 billion—roughly two full years of GDP in 1860.

Thus, the American Civil War was revealed to be a revolution in which both the government and the military expended enormous resources.
