It was a Native American called Tisquantum, also known as Squanto.

Squanto was a native American who could speak English. He had been captured a slave as a young boy and taken to Spain. From Spain he was sent to England and from where he managed to move back to his home region in modern-day Massachusetts.

On arriving back, he found out that his tribe has been effectively wiped off.

His English skills came in handy and he become close to the Pilgrims in the area. He taught them how to use the local soil to grow crops and essential food.

Historians believe that if it wasn't for Squanto, the Pilgrims would have perished within a few months.

SSSSS [86.1K]

Dear King George III of Great Britain,

I am writing to you because we want to start our own country. I write only after long thought about the many issues between us. Some issues and events of the last few years include the Boston tea party, and the stamp act.

You see, in the American colonies, we believe that the purpose of government is serve as the voice as the people . Government should speak for its people in fairness. It should follow the principles of John Locke, such as the rights to natural and inalienable rights and the right to life, liberty, and property.  These ideas mean that we the people have rights that cannot be taken away from us. The role of government in natural law is to protect our citizens from the government and have rights that cannot be taken away.

Unfortunately, you have not lived up to these expectations as a ruler. One example of how you have disappointed us is the changes in laws, and how you have acted with treason towards us on more than one occasion. This affects our rights because we were your faithful subjects, and we deserve rights. Another example is how you have not spoken to your subjects in Boston, only through s govenor who does not always know what you want for your subjects. This affects our rights because as your citizen we have the right to be addressed by the one we call our 'ruler' . A third example is you send men to fight for you but do you really understand what they are fighting for? Or is this all a buisness deal to you?. This affects our rights because as our ruler we deserve to know the truth.

Please remember that we did try to reason with you first. Remember when we sent John Adams to speak with you and you sent him away, thinking he was talking of absurd topics? Or, there was the time we drafted a statement of nutralitiy.

Because you have failed to address our concerns, the American colonists are declaring complete independence from you and from your country, Great Britain. We are no longer under your rule and from now on, we will be our own country and give the people the rights to life, liberity and happiness, because after all the loss of life you have caused our future country, the people are going to have something to fight for...remember us, the country that got away!

Sincerely,

Your Name
