First Unites states Congress generated a fourteen word oath to satisfy the laws indicated in the constitution. Oath of office required members to swear allegiance to the state while upholding an office.

Oath of office was the confirmatory statements of trustworthiness and fidelity to the constitution and the country. Founding fathers created the oath of office whereas the iron clad oath was created by Radical Republicans. Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson sought southern state citizens to take a vow that they will not bear arms and support confederacy and that they would remain loyal to the union.

This was called Liberation oath and it paved way for the restoration of Southern states after the brutal civil war.
