This is kind of a trick question.
Basically your answer is 8.819i.

The i is because its an imaginary number.

It is just -8.819 because when you square and then square root something you get the original number

You first have to set up the two equations. Y is equal to the total number of gallons in a tank and x is equal to the number of hours the tanks are filling.

Since the two equations both equal y I can make them equal each other. I then solved for x as you see and got -4.

Once I found my x value I now needed to find my y. You only needed to chose one equation to solve for y, so I decided to do the first one. I plugged in -4 where my x value currently was and solved for y. I got 2.

For 8 and 9,you would just need to keep multiplying each other until you find the same numbers. It would look something like this.

8,16,24,32,40,48,56,64,72..... etc.

9,18,27,36,45,54,63,72,81..... etc.

You can see how they both have the same factor (72), and since that is the lowest factor (which means I can find a lower factor then 72) then your LCM of 8 and 9 should be 72 :)
