The battle of New Orleans was fought between the British and the American army on 24th December 1814. Britain got embroiled in this war because they wanted to gain control of the Louisiana territory. The British forces were led by Sir Edward Pakenham while the American forces were led by Andrew Jackson. The Americans lost 250 men while the British lost more than 2000 men and this battle was the last armed engagement between the US and Britain. The American victory was important for the growth of the nation.
