"To His Excellence, General Washington", is a poem written by Phillis Wheatley. theme of the poem was centered on freedom cause. Wheatley talk about how the colonists chase freedom from England. She also gave the description of the goddess and how she came down from heaven, and she was involved in the war between the colonists from the Britain. 'Olive branch' is a symbol peace in the poem.

Wheatley urges Washington to continue to pursue freedom for the colonists. She referred that the goddess of freedom is a guide to Washington. She also believes that Washington will win at the end and become the head of state.

When Huck attempts to save the criminals in Chapter 13, he does so because, as he realized with Jim, Huck realizes he is no different from these men. He wonders what happened to bring this men to this situation and thinks that a similar misfortune might befall him one day. He does not want to see any man die, and so he tries to save them.
