The United Nations report on climate change released this week contains some dire news for humanity: It says we have less than two decades and plenty of hard work ahead to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius and avoid catastrophic consequences to the planet. In response to the report, some outlets have made lists of what individuals can do to personally combat climate change, from limiting their meat consumption to carpooling or taking public transportation. Others, however, have argued that individual consumption changes are futile since 70 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions can be traced back to 100 companies, according to a 2017 “Carbon Majors” report by the Climate Accountability Institute.

Both arguments make sense. Individual consumers can’t be blamed for our rising global temperatures — but people want to feel like they’re doing something, no matter how small, to prevent the worst-case climate catastrophe scenario from unfolding. I spoke to Richard Heede, the co-founder and co-director of the Climate Accountability Institute, which produced the Carbon Majors report, about the companies that played the biggest part in creating our current situation and what role, if any, individuals have in determining our future. Our conversation has been condensed and edited for clarity.

Which of the following statements best describes the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Korea
mihalych1998 [28]

Answer: The DMZ is a strip that separates North and South Korea.

Explanation:

After the surrender of Japan and the end of the Second World War, the Soviet Union and the United States of America occupied the Korean peninsula. To avoid conflict, Korea was divided into parallel 38, forming North Korea under the control of the Soviet Union, and South Korea under the support of the United Nations.

Due to the policy that each party adopted, much tension was generated between the two countries that triggered the Korean War.

The demilitarization zone was established in 1953 after a truce between both parties, this zone delimits the border between both countries and establishes a neutral zone of 4 kilometers wide.

The photograph shows a building destroyed by an earthquake in Mexico City in 1985. The Mexican people blamed scenes such as this
Dmitrij [34]

The correct answer is B. The government's response to the earthquake was widely criticized by the Mexican society, being seen incompetent to solve the problems generated by the phenomenom. Due to the fact that most of the collapsed buildings were of recent construction and public works projects (bridges, stadiums, routes, public buildings, etc), the government was seen at fault due to mismanagement and corruption in these constructions.
