Ethnic diversity plays a role in many areas in the development of the Swahili Coast.

Swahili Coast is the coastal area of East Africa. Through the years it has been an important trade place. Commerce has been a key element for the development of the area via trading goods to and from West India and Arabia. This continuous trade has seen a vast movement of people from different places of the region and of the world. Some come and leave, but others stay. These ethnic diversity has played an important role in the social and economic development of the area, compared with Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is a landlock territory. It has no coast, so trade it is a little bit more difficult than a country with coastal areas that has ports that facilitates the commerce and the movement of people. Not so many people visit Ethiopia and because of that, the development of the country in many areas is slow.
