Directrix is a horizontal line, so the parabola is of the form
(x-h)^2= 4p(y-k) , where (h,k) is the vertex

Coordinates of the focus is (h, k+p)
h = 8 (same as the focus)
k+p = -8 -----(1)
equation of directrix is y=k-p
k-p = -6 ------(2)
from (1) & (2)
2k = -14
k=-7
-7+p= -8
p = -1

vertex = (8,-7)
(x-8)^2 = -4(y+7)
y+7 = (-1/4) (x-8)^2
y = (-1/4)(x-8)^2 - 7 is the parabola

What is the equation of the quadratic graph with a focus of (1, 1) and a directrix of y = −1?

Directrix is a horizontal line, so the parabola is of the form
(x-h)^2= 4p(y-k) , where (h,k) is the vertex

Coordinates of the focus is (h, k+p)
h = 1 (same as the focus)
k+p = 1 -----(1)
equation of directrix is y=k-p
k-p = -1 ------(2)
from (1) & (2)
2k = 0
k=0
0+p= 1
p = 1

vertex = (1,0)
(x-1)^2 = 4(y-0)
(x-1)^2=4y
y = (1/4) (x-1)^2 is the parabola

the value of a share of stock decreases in value at a rate of $1.20 per hour during the first 3.5 hours of trading. write and so
kvv77 [185]

Well since I don't know what the original value I'll label it as X. So your equation will start out as X - (1.20 x 1) which would be for every hour for a half hour just divide 1.20 / 2 to get your half an hour. (1.20 x 3) + 0.60. Should be easy if they want it in faction form than it would just be 1.20 x 3 1/2.

Hope this helps

I am not quite sure how to do these.
EleoNora [17]
Sin (Π/2 - theta) = sin(Π/2) * cos(theta) - cos(Π/2) * sin (theta)
and as we know sin(Π/2) =1 , cos(Π/2)=0
so sin(Π/2 - theta) = 1* cos(theta) - 0* sin(theta)= cos(theta)
2nd cos(180+ theta) = cos(180)*cos(theta) - sin(180)* sin(theta)
,,, so , cos(180+theta) = -cos(theta)

A car traveled 300 meters in 30 seconds. A truck traveled 600 meters in 60 seconds. Which car was faster ?
rewona [7]

Multiply the car by 2: 300 meters x 2 = 600 meters

30 seconds x 2 = 60 seconds.

The car also traveled 600 meters in 60 seconds, so the speed of the vehicles are the same.

No vehicle was faster.
